In addition to making history, 200 riders logged 360 miles over the span of three days. Sorenson has set a goal to raise $1,000,000 this year, which would be on top of the $6.8 million already raised in the event’s 16-year history. A U.S. Forest Service ruling passed this January ruled that every Forest Service unit and/or ranger district that does not have a Travel Plan addressing Over Snow Vehicle (OSV) use must develop one that does. The plan is required to designate which trails, routes and areas are open to OSV use. The Chippewa and Superior National Forest plans include snowmobiling. MnUSA members continue to work closely with forest supervisors to ensure that all the open off trail areas, every trail, railroad and logging road, will be accounted for and are properly addressed on the over the snow motor vehicle use maps which are being developed by each forest. More than $6,000 was raised through a geocaching challenge and raffles for the Friends of Snowmobiling Political Action Committee (FOSPAC). The funds are available to snowmobile club or association members who wish to attend a federal elected official’s fundraiser or donate to a candidate who is supportive of snowmobiling.
