As an organization, MnUSA’s main purposes are to protect the rights of snowmobilers to use public lands, maintain funding and educate the members on aspects of maintaining the sport. To do this in Minnesota, we GAYLE keep an eye on what’s happening QUISTGARD nationwide. MnUSA is a part of a national snowmobile organization called the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA). ACSA helps us keep abreast of any litigations threatening federal public land usage, and helps to translate how these issues could play out in our state. As an example, an Idaho-based organization called Winter Wildlands Alliance is trying to keep motorized users out of national forests in Idaho. They have won the first round in their lawsuit against the U.S. Forest Service to require winter travel plans for national forests. ACSA has joined with the Idaho State Snowmobile Association and others to appeal this decision. This decision will affect travel management plans in all national forests. In Minnesota alone, we enjoy approximately 1,100 miles of snowmobile trails in the Superior and Chippewa national forests. Can you imagine the effect to our access for snowmobiling in our national forests if this group wins their suit? It is very important for the MnUSA Business Manager, Nancy Hanson, to keep current on all the national issues that may someday affect our state and to pass that information on to us. As MnUSA members, we also have the same goals in regard to protecting and elevating our sport. With that in mind, it is important that we work together as a group and present one voice to our legislators, government agencies and the general public. Only through unity can we accomplish our goals. To do this most efficiently and effectively, MnUSA has a set protocol to work ideas up and down the membership chain. As a member, you have the right to bring your ideas and concerns to the MnUSA leadership through directors or officers, or at MnUSA meetings. It is important to place any issue before the board of directors and officers for discussion in order to reach consensus. Any member with an issue, should bring it forward so all the officers and directors are aware of any problems and can work together to reach solutions. MnUSA uses several methods to share information with its members, including its website and Facebook page, regular communications with regional directors and clubs, and through this magazine. MnUSA is only as strong as its members working together in unity. Through cooperation we have the strength to reach our goals and keep our sport a viable recreation.
