Grantsburg is 75 miles from the Twin Cities, and 100 miles from Duluth, just over the Wisconsin border in Burnett County. Superior W atercross Shootout August 17-18 in Superior, Wis. www.iwaracing.com MnUSA members know how to kick it up and have some fun, and they do it in short-sleeved shirts at the annual summer campout. This year’s list of activities include guided ATV rides (BYO ATV), a pool, tubing, bonfires, fire truck rides and plenty of good food. This campout is planned and executed by the clubs in MnUSA Region 7, which includes clubs in the Arrowhead area of Minnesota. Participate: The cost is $45 for adults (18 and over) and $20 for kids (6-17). Registration includes a Friday night brat feed, continental breakfast on Saturday, a meal on Saturday night, evening s’mores and beverages. Camping fees are not included. How about some watercross on Lake Superior? This inaugural event will take place at Barker’s Island, a get-away on the bay just beyond the Twin Ports harbors. In addition to the racing, organizers are planning music, food, vendor booths and a beer garden. Spectate: Watercross action will take place from 9 a.m. until about 5 p.m. on both days. Tickets are $15 per day; $20 for the weekend. Participate: The on-water action will include both drag and oval events, organized by the International Watercross Association (www. iwaracing.com). Navigate: Barker’s Island is on the east side of Superior, across the water from the tip of Minnesota’s Park Point. It is about 160 miles north of the Twin Cities, and just over the border from Duluth. 37th World Championship Snowmobile W atercross July 19-21 in Grantsburg, Wis. www.grantsburgwatercross.com 20th Rum River Trail Association Outla w Grass Drags August 23-25 in Princeton www.outlawgrassdrags.com Make memories at Memory Lake, as the small flowage becomes the site of non-stop watercross action. Over the weekend, you’ll see more than 100 racers compete in oval and drag events, with the championship race making six laps around the lake’s bouys. Check out the street dances, the Saturday night fireworks and a wrist-wrestling competition, too. Spectate: Races start at noon on Friday and wrap up at 4:30 on Sunday. An adult three-day pass (16 and older) is $25; a one-day pass is $15. Youth 10-15 is $15 for three days; 9 and under are free. The Friday night street dance is also free. Participate: The race is sanctioned by the International Watercross Association (IWA), and hosts many classes of racing including drags, ovals and vintage.
