MnUSA nEWS Mary Miller: An Anchor for Rice Creek Trails The Rice Creek Trail Association lost a valued member at the end of 2012, with the death of Mary Miller, 68, of Circle Pines. Miller not only served as an officer of the association, but also was a hard-working volunteer in other aspects of the club. Miller planned most of the landowner’s appreciation dinners, keeping in touch with many landowners personally during the year. She also helped with the club’s booth at Haydays. When MnUSA was in its infancy, she assisted with signing up new members at a Minneapolis Convention Center event. Driving tractors, putting up fences, brushing, marking and whatever else had be done to their trail was never too difficult for Miller. She took care of most of the paperwork required by the Department of Natural Resources and Anoka County for the Rice Creek Trail Association. She served as the club secretary from 1987 until her death from cancer on December 31, 2012. Miller’s loves were her silver 1956 Chevy two-door hardtop, her Ski-Doo snowmobile, her dune buggy, attending her grandchildrens’ activities and being a member of Ducks Unlimited of Wisconsin. But most of all, she loved “her Green Bay Packers.” Miller will be greatly missed by her family and members of the Rice Creek Trail Association. Big Raffle A buck may buy you a 2014 snowmobile. It will also get some money into your club’s bank account. As they have in the past several years the Sno-Barons Snowmobile Club, which organizes Haydays, will offer the “no risk raffle ticket sales drive” as a fundraiser for MnUSA clubs and other organizations. The raffle will offer four premium quality snowmobiles – an Arctic Cat 2014 ZR 8000 Sno Pro, a Polaris 2014 800 Indy SP, a Ski-Doo 2014 MX Z Sport 600, and a Yamaha 2014 Phazer RTX 500. The first name pulled gets the first choice of machine, and so-on. The winner need not be present to win! Clubs can obtain raffle tickets from the Sno-Barons who have the tickets for the raffle printed and ready to go. Clubs sell the tickets for $1 each, with 85 percent of sales going back to the club. Ticket sales can continue until the last week of August. Any unsold tickets and sales proceeds need to be returned to Judy Seviola on or before August 31, 2013. Snowmobile clubs participating in this fundraiser must have 100% membership belonging to MnUSA. Organizations that are not a snowmobile club must join MnUSA as a business member and the $50.00 membership fee will be deducted from your sales.
