Off-Road News Offroad Updates Cat Expands in Minnesota Arctic Cat Inc. plans to invest nearly $27 million in its manufacturing facilities inThief River Falls and St. Cloud resulting in the creation of approximately 50 jobs. Arctic Cat plans to invest approximately $26 million in its Thief River Falls facility for a new paint line and other facility improvements that are estimated to create an additional 39 jobs.The paint line will enable continued growth in the company’s recreational off-highway vehicle (ROV) business. In St. Cloud, the company plans to invest roughly $400,000 in expanded assembly capability that is anticipated to add about 10 positions at its engine manufacturing facility located there. The company manufactures and assembles ATV and snowmobile engines at its 56,000-square-foot Engine Manufacturing Division in St. Cloud. Campground Construction in Vermilion State Park Construction began in May on a campground at the state’s new Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park in northeastern Minnesota that will accommodate more than 250 people nightly in tents and RVs. The campground is expected to open in fall 2016. Future phases of construction at the park, pending funding, will include a visitor center, trail system, cabins, group camps and nature play areas, as well as additional hike-in, boat-in and ATV-in campsites. Summer Derby The Derby Track in Eagle River, Wis., is known for its coldweather events, but it’s about to add something for ATV and UTV enthusiasts: a weekend of racing. On the weekend of August 28-30, there will be stock and modified racing for all classes on a challenging motocross style track as well as oval racing on the modified “World Famous Derby Track Bowl.” Drivers will also have a chance at the Mud Bowl: a combination of clay, sand and water. In addition to racing, there will be onsite camping, machine demos, a freestyle show, a high-stakes poker run, a swap meet and vendor displays. Hammerhead manufactures gasoline powered go-karts, light utility vehicles, and electric utility vehicles in Shanghai, China. The acquisition process started in February. Hammerhead’s main manufacturing operation is located in Shanghai, China, near Polaris’ Chinese subsidiary. Hammerhead also has an operation located north of Dallas, Texas, responsible for light assembly and sales distribution of its products in North America.
