Rick Langness MN4 WDA President On the Right Trail I hope you are as excited as I am that we are able to get out and do trail activities and build new ones. We’ve witnessed a lot of exciting trail development and work in the past few years — and MN4WDA clubs are not finished. However, MN4WDA, as an organization, doesn’t initiate this development. Clubs that want to be a part of the development process have the responsibility to make contact with local DNR and community leaders to find new trails and obtain funding through the state-funded Grant-in-Aid (GIA) trail program. You’re not alone in the process. The MN4WDA will help with advice and other assistance as clubs navigate the process. It’s a process we know well, as we already have several trails in different stages. We are shifting monies to put more money into the GIA program, so if you have an idea for a trail and don’t know who to contact or where to start, ask us. The annual Spring Swap Meet in early April in Anoka was another great turnout. I want to thank the North Star Jeep Club for doing it this year. Please read the article for more information in this issue. The annual Spring Convention was also well attended; in fact we believe it was the largest one to date. It seemed everyone had a great time and there were enough door prizes for everyone. One thing I want everyone to remember is that this is the MN4WDA fundraiser, so it’s one price if you show up for the whole day or part of a day — or even just the dinner — it’s the same cost.Thank you for supporting this organization through your attendance. I want to thank Jeff Wendt, who chaired the event, and everyone who assisted for their significant time and effort. This effort included youth, too. Jeff’s daughter, Morgan Wendt, did a great job at the registration table and kept everything in order. Our next event is National Trails Day on June 6.There will be activity in several parts of the state including events in Appleton, Gilbert/Virginia, Pine County and Cass County, among others. To find out more information about what is going on near you or in a certain location talk to your club representative or contact one of the MN4WDA Board of Directors. The results of the elections held in April are: Vice President, Geoff O’Brien; Public Relations,Tim Schulze; and Board of Directors: Eric Crist, Shane Kepler and Dave Beer. I would like to congratulate them and I look forward to continuing the movement that the MN4WDA has been doing over the last several years. Remember, we are only as strong as our members and the efforts that everyone puts into the organization. By helping us, you help yourself and your friends. If you know someone enjoying the trails that are not currently a member, ask them to please join and be counted. Our numbers do matter when you ask for anything at the DNR or state government. I hope to see you on the trails. OR 6 MINNESOTA OFFROAD
