Rick Langness MN4 WDA President No Idling for Winter Winter is here, and even though there isn’t much snow on the ground a lot of us are working or planning to work on rigs for the coming spring. The MN4WDA is planning and working on several things during the winter, trying to make them happen sooner than later. We could use your help and expertise, so come and be part of it. The Belle Plaine cleanup crew did a great job again this year and even taught the DNR some things — like it’s not as easy as it sounds to clean our rigs after being in the mud. The DNR tried to clean our rigs using hoses with city water pressure and found it not very effective. We did get a lot of trash hauled out, though, which was the point of the day. I would like to thank everyone who showed up and give a special thanks to Scott Potter. The MN4WDA has agreed to team up with the DNR with its PlayCleanGo program, which promotes leaving the dirt and seeds in the area they’re from. The program is just getting started and expect to here more about it this coming year. Some of you have heard Ron Potter of the MNDNR is retiring this January after a long and productive career. I remember the first time I met Ron. He had no idea what we really did in our sport and I believe Ron learned as much from us as we from him. Ron has been a great supporter and adviser for us throughout the years and I know he will be missed by everyone on all sides for his insights and knowledge. One of the many things that I’ll remember about Ron is that he’s hard to follow when in woods and he’ll disappear and then pop out from any direction. We are working hard with not only the DNR but also MNDOT, County Land Commissioners and private parties to help find areas for us to enjoy, but we need help, so please come to a meeting or join the meeting using our webcast. You can also call us or e-mail, just let us know! There is no meeting in December, due to the holidays so our next meeting will be January 28, 2013 in Crystal at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW, hope to see you there. Plan ahead for the MN4WDA spring convention, which will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Frontenac Farms just south of Red Wing. We will have wheeling, speakers and door prizes. There will be camping on site, as well as hotels in Red Wing and Lake City.
