[ 2017-2018 Minnesota Destinations ] 6 Ride Guide Read our ride guide before you gas and go - learn the ins and outs of a snowmobile experience. CONTENTS 8 Steel and Stone: The Iron Range The Taconite Trail is this region’s spine as it offers a true tour of the Minnesota Iron Range. See mining in all of its various forms in and between the towns that dot the area. 10 Rocky Border Ice: Voyaguers National Park Area 15 Ride Along the Ridge: North Shore The region with Minnesota’s only national park offers dramatic winter landcapes — and likely a view of the northern lights — both inside and outside of the park. The North Shore can almost guarantee ample snow with the ultimate reward of seeing Lake Superior views. The North Shore Trail is the crown jewel, with numerous trail gems radiating from it. 20 West Side Story: Western Minnesota From jewel lakes to forests to prairie, with some Viking history tossed in: make tracks in this popular snowmobile area. 23 Not Very Far Up North: East Central Minnesota 24 Headwaters: North Central Minnesota Take a layover on the way to the North Shore and find stunning river valleys, fast rail trails and surprisingly remote areas on either side of the I-35 corridor. Forests, flats, rolling hills and monster pines and the start of one mighty river is what snowmobilers will find in North Central part of the state. 26 Where Snowmobiling Began: Northwest Minnesota 28 Trees and Trail: Brainerd Lakes Snowmobile with the sport’s pioneers in the area where both Polaris and Arctic Cat were developed -- and are still built. Everything is a little bigger, a little better in Paul Bunyan’s backyard. The Brainerd Lakes area offers a gentle experience for new snowmobilers, but enough variety for the experienced.
