Brrrraaaappp! The sport of watercross is returning to Superior, Wisconsin for the 2nd annual Benna Ford Roush Superior Watercross Shootout! Watercross racers from around the Midwest will be competing on “The Big Lake”, Lake Superior, on August 16th & 17th at Barkers Island Festival Park. (Click here for video footage.)
Watercross is the sport of racing snowmobiles on water. Professional drivers from the International Watercross Association (IWA) will compete in both oval and drag races at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour! Watercross was born over three decades ago in Grantsburg, WI. The goal was to see who could make it 300 feet from an island to the shore. Most failed, yet that did not stop people from continuing to try. Every year, the extreme sport grows in popularity. Today, nearly one hundred registered riders, with participants as young as 14 years old, show off their need for speed. (Click here to learn more about how the machines work.)
“We are thrilled to be bringing this event back to Superior,” quotes Kimberly Carr, Event Manager from Townsquare Media Duluth. “This fast paced, high adrenaline, extreme sport has such a wow-factor that people of all ages and backgrounds are getting excited about it.”
The weekend event will include racing all day Saturday and Sunday, food vendors, a beer garden, exhibit booths for the entire family, and live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Complete details can be found on our website and Facebook page.
